That is an excellent adaptation because it eliminates one elbow.  Nice job, let us know how it works.

BTW, the top should have a short outlet tube extending below it.  I can't tell from your photo if you have one or not.  If it seems like lots of fines or even chips are getting by it, then add a short outlet tube (I just use a PVC coupler).

Thanks.  Yes, I have about 2.5 inches of pipe below the top.

Thank you for such a great idea!  I also used your template for cutting the circles, another great gift!  Thank you so much!

I have the Vac in a small room behind the shop.  I need to clean it up and remove an old drop out box that I built years ago.  Then I will be able to install it and try it out.  I have already installed an 8" vent to the outside and hooked up the collector so it blows directly outside.

Nice job BoiseJim!

I have been thinking about building a very similar design.

What type of adhesive did you use to attach the inlet to the drum? I can't tell from the pic but I assume you used screws as well.

Thanks,

Yes, I used clear silicone and flat head wood screws.

Where did you get the steel drum?

boisejim

I live in Boise Idaho and we have a farm supply store here called D&B Supply.  The drum was used to transport horseradish (what a smell).

They are selling them for $16.00 with the lid and closer.  Not bad since a 30 gal garbage can is about $30.00.

I got it hooked up and running today.  It works GREAT!

I seem to have lost a little suction but it does it's job great.

THANKS Phil!
