How to adapt the Thien separator to a Grizzly twin bag set DC?

Hi,

I'm a new member and this is my first post.  I'm going to build Phil Thien's separator but don't know how to integrate it into my DC.  I have an older Grizzly G1030Z2 3 HP Dust Collector, similar to the one here:  http://www.grizzly.com/products/3-HP-Dust-Collector-with-New-Impeller/G1030Z2.

As you can see, the blower has two outlets - one for each set of bags.  My question is, should I replace one of the bag sets with a 55 gallon drum and Phil's separator, which would require that I revise the ducting from the blower, or would it be better to just set the 55 gallon drum and separator to the side of the DC and have blower suck through it before going to the bags?

How have other folks done this?

BTW, I was thinking of replacing the bags, which are 19-1/2 X 33 with upgraded i micron shaker felt bags.  Where is a good source for those?  Thanks.

The separator should go before the DC, that way all of the large debris is seperated out before reaching the impeller. According to the link you provided, that "Y" fitting is removable, so I would remove the "Y" fitting and run 6" pipe between the separator and DC. Just did the same thing on my 1200cfm Jet and it works great.
