Hi Guys,
Thanks so much, Phil for your contribution here!  Will make a donation ASAP.  Thanks also to contributors.

I have one under construction to go on a smallish plastic bucket approx 14 inches in diameter, using 2 inch 90 degree elbow for inlet and Rockler port connections.  I plan to run a short section of 2 1/2 inch tube from the vac exhaust outside through a hole cut in basement/shop door, in addition to connections from the table saw/other connection and from the separator to the shop vac.

Here's the question:  other designs extend the exhaust duct well down inside the separator.  The pics aren't very clear if the exhaust port extends down into the separator.  Does it?  How far?  Wouldn't  extending the tube connected to the exhaust port below the "chip deck" (where the inlet port is blowing the chips and dust) reduce dust from being sucked directly from the inlet port to the exhaust port?

I suspect that Phil or others have already experimented with this and am curious what that outcome might have been?

Or.... I'll fire up my circle cutting jig and stick a tube in and try it... and report back!

Of course, that will be outside in the 95 degree heat, until I get my Thien Separator up and running and can move back into my shop with my router!  ;D

Thanks again!

It only needs to extend down about 1/2 (one-half) the diameter of the port itself.  So for a 2" port, about an inch is fine.  For a 4" port, I'd do 2".  And so on.
