Does output port need to extend down towards baffle?

In the original Illustrations, Phil does not show the output port extending down towards the baffle bottom, but most builds I see show it extending down some ways. Is this necessary? I'm using 4" lines, my bottom sits about 6 1/4" from the lid, and I've got about a 22" diameter container. I did some searching here and saw some reference to "1/2D," but I'm not positive what that means or if it even applies to the separator lid.

Any help is much appreciated!

yes half the diameter of the outlet up from the baffel

Thanks for the reply, Alan.

To clarify: because my outlet is 4", I'd want a 2" distance? Is this a 2" gap between the bottom of the baffle and my extended outlet, or 2" of outlet extending from the lid?

Thanks again!

Just to be accurate this is the distance from the top of the baffle. Hope it works well and you let us all know about it. Regards

Thanks for the replies guys. After a quick test run, the separator appears to be functioning marvelously! I'll give it a real thorough testing this weekend but so far things look really good.

Big thank you to everyone on this forum and HUGE thank you to Phil!

I built mine with 2" of outlet extending below the lid?  Seems to work pretty good.  Any one do any testing with the outlet tube 2" from the lid versus 2" above the baffle??
