The separator should go before the DC, that way all of the large debris is seperated out before reaching the impeller. According to the link you provided, that "Y" fitting is removable, so I would remove the "Y" fitting and run 6" pipe between the separator and DC. Just did the same thing on my 1200cfm Jet and it works great.  

I've built my own closed stand router table and I'm also looking to modify my table saw's DC setup, and I was wondering if there is a formula somewhere for calculating the size of the make-up air opening I need to allow the DC to work properly.

Wynn filter came yesterday. What a difference in performance over the bag! Money well spent. And my whole garage had that "new filter" smell when I fired up the DC.

Just ordered the Wynn 35A 80/20 filter, can't wait til it gets here!

Anybody familiar with the canister filter sold by penn state? It looks like a direct fit on a 1200 Jet and it has a wiper blade inside to clean the pleats,  but doesn't have much for specs or what its made of.

I run large amounts of cedar through my planer and the best way to tell if my drum is getting full is seeing the few bits of shavings in the plastic bag. But my new Jet 1200cfm DC has a cloth bag, so I wont be able to see the chips getting into the bag, which is why I want to get rid of the cloth bag and go to plastic.

So if a pleated filter isn't in my budget just yet, can I still use a plastic bottom bag with a cloth upper bag?

Just bought a used Jet 1200cfm DC to replace my little 650cfm jet. The 1200 comes with a cloth lower bag, my old 650 had a clear plastic bag and I kinda like the plastic better. If I switch the 1200's cloth lower bag with a plastic one, am I hurting the performance?

I recently purchased a bigger planer.  I was using a DeWalt 733 lunchbox style planer, but now I have a 15" 3hp delta with a much greater depth of cut capacity. My problem is the shavings it produces are much larger than the old DeWalt and the tend to get caught up on the baffle unless I run the planer in slow speed and allow a few seconds between boards. The DC i currently have is a 1hp Jet 650cfm model.
My question is: Will enlarging the cutout in the baffle help or am I going to have to get a larger DC? Would the addition of an air ramp or neutral vane help?

Found the perfect seperator drum today on craigslist. It's a 55 gallon steel drum with a gasketed plastic lid and a clamping ring, for $15 bucks.      

So I made the baffle, cut the intake into the side, and fired it up. All I can say is WOW, I can't believe how well it works,  everything stays in the drum. I even load tested it by dropping the end of my DC hose into a big bag of planer shavings, and nothing went through to the DC bag. I wish I would have found this site sooner.

I am a new member here, been looking at a lot of pics trying to get this design into my head so I can build one for myself. In a search, I came across a reference to a video I think shows more about the seperator, but I can't find a link to watch it. Can anybody help?
