Blue Onion,

I like your approach, how's the baffle performing?  is your filter getting dirty or staying clean.

What is you take on this approach?  Would it work as well as the baffle on top of a separate barrel?

Has anyone on this forum built a Thein baffle and installed it into the dust collector unit in the same way that Jet has installed their Vortex?
I have a unit very similar in design and would like to know if the Thein design would work well inside the DC unit.

Thien Cyclone Separator Lid Discussion / Latest Lid
February 11, 2011, 07:52:30 AM
This is my third lid and I've made a few changes to simplify construction.  I used a hose connector in both holes.  The connector was cut into two pieces and each half was inserted into the holes.  In the Top view you can see that I added a collar to accept the adapter for a 2" vac hose.  I used 3/4" MDF for the lid and 1/4" MDF for the baffle plate.

I've set up a dust collection system for my shop.  The Thein baffle is part of the system and I am very pleased with the performance.  However I don't have a good set up for my miter saw.  Does anyone have plans for a good hood.  I found this video on youtube.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mRCgwTqJhqM  Looks good but I can't find plans.

I finished it up today - testing to follow.

I've been reading many of the posts here and I'm quite impressed with the design and the input from everyone.  I followed the design and built a small unit with a 5 gallon bucket and shop vac ducting.  It worked very well.  Now I plan to build a larger unit for a 2HP dust collector and 4" ducting.
My question is should I still maintain the 1 1/4" gap at the perimeter of the baffle or should it be increased due to the larger ducting?  From what I have read here the gap should still be 1 1/4" but I wanted to ask before I started cutting.  The major diameter for my baffle is 22".

Thanks
