Title: Comparison Top Hat to conventional
Post by: tvman44 on July 14, 2013, 12:19:10 PM
Has anyone compared the efficiency of a top hat type Thien separator to a Thien separator with the baffle in the barrel?  Other than more capacity? :)

i havnt tried it  but my first 4" top hat was a top inlet . most of the seperaters built into the barrel are top inlet. i changed mine to a side inlet and improved seperation a lot.
my gut also tells me that a top hat would be better sealed between the baffle and the wall of the seperater. having a gap there will allow the air to get down into the barrel and increase the chance of the seperated dust getting sucked back up
