Title: Is the chimney height into filter critical?
Post by: kwit on March 19, 2013, 06:15:22 PM
Hey everyone

My question is  - does the height of the chimney INTO the filter chamber a critical factor ; I understand I do not want to go more than 1/2D below the inlet port.

I am pleased with my baffle inside DC ring on my Grizzly with Wynn filter.  I upgraded to a 2HP/220v motor and impeller.   I did quite a bit of planing over the weekend and decided to check out inside the filter.  After filling the bag about 18" of dust - I had about less than a 1/4 cup of debris above the DC ring in the filter and chamber.

Not complaining at all - just looking to improve - I decided to add a chimney in the DC ring;  the opening in the DC ring is 12" - my inlet is about 4.75"

Here's a pic of my previous modification to clarify things

Not critical, no.  But you don't want it extending any further into the filter than needed, either.
