Title: Moving the dust collector itself outside?
Post by: damagi on June 10, 2012, 10:38:10 AM
Has anyone put their actual dust collector outside? My house has a perfect spot behind the garage which doesn't get wet, so that seems like it could work. Would be nice to be able to move the noise of the motor outside, as well as the chip collection and filter...or perhaps even skip the filter.

Thoughts?

It works, just remember to account for the make up air. If you are in an area that needs a lot of HVAC, the loss of conditioned air could be signicant.

My garage is not heated, so I think I should be ok there.

I do hope it works, the foundation is in place, (PT wood, filled w/ decomposed, compacted granite).  Just too much noise inside the shop.  Plus it takes up room.  The DC is a 2 hp Griz, with an after market 1 micron bag, about twice the volume.  The plan is to use two 20 X 24 return air filters.  I'm in TX, gets a bit warm here.
