Title: Top hat design; how wide should the slot be?

So, on a top hat, how wide a slot can you get away with? Does wider help/hinder? Mine wound up being about 2" wide.

It is recomended that you start out with 1.12. I read somewhere that someone opened his up to 2 inches. Why, I dont remember. But he was happy with it. I know this doesnt help at all.  :-[

MINE ARE BOTH 1.25" AND SEEM TO WORK JUST FINE.
