Title: Thien Baffle on Harbor Freight DC w/out filter????
Post by: Kalikov on September 14, 2011, 02:44:25 PM
I would like to know if adding the Thien Baffle to a Harbor Freight Dust collector
would do any good without adding the Filter type top to it? still using a felt bag..

I ask this because I would like to MOD my Dust collector to make it better
but funds are tight right now, I have the needed wood to make the baffle
but do not have the funds to get the filter YET... mean time would the addition of the baffle help
this machine out any at all?

Thanks in advance.

It will help, the baffle serves to keep the filter clean. This works if the filter is bag type, or a canister. Many people, (myself included) get frustrated with their DC system and upgrade to a baffle and new canister all at once.

If you continue to use the filter bag for a while, take the time to give the bag a real good cleaning. I really caked my bag up with fines from a drum sander. To clean it, I would take the bag off, then turn it inside out to get rid of fine caked saw dust. I would then get better suction at the tool pick up until the bag became clogged again.

The Thien baffle will help, by not allowing very many fines to get to the filter bag in the first place.
