Title: Inlet/Outlet sizes
Post by: yostriker on February 15, 2011, 09:02:39 AM
Hello all,

I am an avid woodworking hobbyist with a small shop (garage). I have been reading all kinds of different things about cyclone separators. I have produced one but it did not gain the results I had hoped for. I will be making one now out of a 75L trash can with a Thien's baffle. My cabinet saw has a 4" dust port and my shop vac only has a 2.25" inlet, My question is, can you connect a 4" flex hose to the separator from the CS but only have a 2.25" flex hose connected to the vac and get some good suction at the CS?

Nope.

You can't collect from a device that uses 4" ports via a 2.5" shop vac.

Those devices with 4" ports require lots of CFM, and a shop vac just isn't going to do it for you.
