Title: Seperator plugging
Post by: seajai on June 26, 2010, 09:32:55 AM
I built this: http://www.jpthien.com/smf/index.php?topic=196.0  last year and its been working great, until...... I recently purchased a bigger planer.  I was using a DeWalt 733 lunchbox style planer, but now I have a 15" 3hp delta with a much greater depth of cut capacity. My problem is the shavings it produces are much larger than the old DeWalt and the tend to get caught up on the baffle unless I run the planer in slow speed and allow a few seconds between boards. The DC i currently have is a 1hp Jet 650cfm model.
My question is: Will enlarging the cutout in the baffle help or am I going to have to get a larger DC? Would the addition of an air ramp or neutral vane help?

You could try to expand the slot just a smidge...
