Title: Shop-vac vs. D/C?
Post by: chopnhack on May 13, 2010, 11:14:33 PM
When would you use one over the other? I ask because I am thinking of incorporating the ability to pop 2 reducers into my current design to allow me to use the barrel for both the d/c and the shop-vac.
Thanks

From my limited experience with DC over shop vac, I would think that 2.5" hose is too small to get enough cfm to carry the dust adequately without the higher static pressure of a shop vac.   Even dropping from 5" to 4" makes a noticeable difference on my system.

DC is better overall, with the exclusion of handheld sanders. They seem to like the greater static pressure and lower CFM of the shop vac...

FWIW, I have 2 systems, a DC / Thien setup, and a Shop Vac / Thien setup... I have been known to use both at the same time...
