Title: Where to start?
Post by: mrgnstrn on March 08, 2020, 03:47:42 PM
Hello all!

I'm thinking of building a baffle plate separator, but I'm just not sure where to start.

I see that a big thrust of this forum is to build and test and report, but where do beginners start?

Is there a "start here" template as far as to build dimensions or parameters?

I'm thinking of making one for a metal trash can, but I'm not sure the right place to start for the distance between the top plate and the baffle plate, the size of the annular-cutout on the baffle, and the positioning of the inlet relative to the cutout.

Presumably, based on the several years of work done here there is a best-practice and an understanding of which way the dimensions impact performance.
I think I saw that the size of the cutout in the baffle is a compromise between separating large chips and disturbing the stuff that has already settled. is that right?
what about the vertical separation between the top plate and the baffle?

Thanks for helping a beginner get started!
